On the third day of the Chinese New Year, in the north of China,
 people usually have the custom of eating Hezi(Pan-fried Chinese Chive Pancake), 
 which symbolizes harmony, happiness, and wealth flowing in abundantly.
大年初三这一天，在北方，人们一般会有吃合子（韭菜盒子）的习俗，
寓意和和美美，财源滚滚之意。

In the south, there is a custom of eating rice cakes,
 because "rice cake" is homophonous with "rising each year" in Chinese, 
 implying that people will have greater harvests and achievements in the new year.
南方则有吃年糕的习俗，因为年糕和“年高”谐音，
寓意着人们在新的一年里能够有更高的收获和成就。
